Imagine learning with a teacher. In Supervised Learning, AI models are trained on 'labeled' data, meaning each piece of input data is paired with a correct output or label. The goal is for the model to learn a mapping function that can predict the output for new, unseen inputs. Key tasks include Classification (predicting a category, like 'spam' or 'not spam') and Regression (predicting a continuous value, like house prices). Common algorithms include Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Support Vector Machines, and Decision Trees.

Unsupervised Learning: Finding Hidden Patterns

Now, imagine learning without a teacher, by observing patterns. Unsupervised Learning deals with 'unlabeled' data. The AI model tries to learn the inherent structure, patterns, or relationships within the data on its own. A primary task is Clustering, which groups similar data points together (e.g., customer segmentation). Another is Dimensionality Reduction, which reduces the number of variables while preserving important information. Popular algorithms include K-Means Clustering and Principal Component Analysis (PCA).

Reinforcement Learning: Learning through Trial and Error

Think of training a pet with treats. Reinforcement Learning (RL) involves an 'agent' that learns to make decisions by interacting with an 'environment'. The agent performs actions, receives 'rewards' or 'penalties' based on those actions, and aims to maximize its cumulative reward over time. It's about learning the best strategy through trial and error. RL is powerful for training robots, game playing AI (like AlphaGo), and optimizing complex systems.

The Artificial Neuron: A Simple Start

The journey begins with the 'artificial neuron' or 'perceptron', the fundamental processing unit of a neural network. It receives one or more inputs, and each input is multiplied by a 'weight' (representing its importance). These weighted inputs are summed up, and a 'bias' term is often added. This sum is then passed through an 'activation function', which determines the neuron's output. Think of it as a mini-decision maker.

Neural Network Architecture: Layers of Understanding

Neurons are organized into layers. Training Neural Networks: The Learning Process

How do these networks learn? Through a process called 'training'. Initially, the weights are random. The network makes predictions on training data, and a 'loss function' measures how wrong these predictions are. The magic happens with an algorithm called 'backpropagation', which calculates how much each weight contributed to the error. Then, an optimization algorithm like 'gradient descent' adjusts the weights in a direction that reduces the error. This is repeated many times until the network performs well.
